Champagne Wishes, Caviar Dreams

Day 15

Oh hi, I didn't see you there. Welcome to the pad: Building 4, Apt. 6. It's where the magic happens...
LR, DR, study...

Kitchen (where no magic happens I promise), spartan BR...

Cosy bath, with washer...

and, finally, the priceless view...
plastic bottles = the latest in anti-pigeon technology.

Welp, that's how the other half lives.

MTV cribs: we will talk appearance fees.

(Re)orientations

Part II, Day 7

I'm back. In Jordan, and in Irbid, after a week of Fulbrighter orientation in Amman.
Lots of meet and greet, helpful info sessions, and brief face time with some embassy types at the Fulbright house. My classmates are pretty accomplished folks: lots of cool internships and time abroad between them, 3 Peace Corps vets, etc.

I tagged along for a lot of apartment hunting in Amman (a chief reason for the time together in the capital). I happen to be the only Fulbrighter of about 20 not residing in the capital at the start of the grant, so I was mostly just getting ideas for January.

Irbid hasn't changed much in 3 weeks, although the construction work on our neighborhood Burger King is complete. I don't expect to patronize it anytime soon though.

I've filled the last two days with settling into my new apartment on Yarmouk U's campus (not too shabby actually) and reconnecting with my friend Mohammad downtown. Picked up some choice leather shoes with his help in the suq today in fact.

Tomorrow I will try to hammer down the nuts and bolts of my class schedule here for this fall semester as a lot is still up in the air. I will also hit the streets again and start a long, slow training schedule to get ready for a marathon in March (en sh'allah).
More on the bachelor pad next post.
